Ok guys & girls. I really see this group growing, but not debating anything. That´s why I invite you to give your ideas on how to "be better" in English. Whatever trick, method, strategies, techniques used, please include them.

Just an example. I used to put a pen between my lips and then talk, it´s said it helps with the pronunciation!.

Hi Tony:

You stand out in my group, such reason you have a yellow star? What do you think?
Well, it's wonderful to put a pen between lips to improve the pronunciation. Thanks for sharing with us.

To be better in english is very easy:

1) Everyday study 5 words from Webster's dictionary, english-english. It explains from different forms the meaning of the word and you learn minimun another four words.

2) Try to learn everyday 5 irregular verbs and 5 regular verbs and make senteces with them.

3) Read newspaper, magazines and cut articles and look for new words. (Once per week)

4) Listen songs in english.

5) Readings in english (From your favorite topic).

6) Put in practice your knowledge.

And the last one, don't forget that I'm here to help you.

Hugs
Maggie

Hi Magie & the rest.
More on the same topic:
- Dont´just try to learn words in isolation, but combine them into sentences. That way you´ll be practicing grammar as well.
- It´s boring to just read words from the dictionary, and sometimes they are outdated, so it´s bettter to find newspaper or magazines and pick up the words you don´t know.
- For those who are getting ahead, a good practice is to start translating for English to Spanish/Spanish to English. Try to do it on real life situations, like conversations you hear on street, or while chatting with friends, or just while watching the TV.

Hi Tony:
When I say to learn words from the dictionary it's not in isolation, let me show you an example:
measure=
1) a moderate extent or degree
2) the dimensions, capacity or quantity of something as fixed by measuring
3) an action planned or taken as a means to an end.

Here, with a word you can practice grammar when they describe the meaning.
But it must be a dictionary english-english.
I also recommend newspapers, magazines and books. Please, could you scan some important article for us?
I appreciate your comments.
Hugs

Hi Silvia.
Being in England will give you the edge you need to get better. British English is quite "educated" so you´ll be learning from the purest fountain.
For you just a tip.
When using verbs in infinitive. (Español amar, temer, partir etc). Include "to" before. Like: I´m so glad "to" stay here... Good way "to" learn English. Love "to" speak.
The rest is cool, you´re doing great.
I´ll upload a document on the use of prepositions, take a look at it.
Keep up the good work!

Hi!
How are you?
It´s very interesting what you say, to use a pen betwing your lips improves your pronuntiation.
I´m going to try it.
Thanks for your sugestions.

Jaime.

Hi Jaime.
You´re welcome. It was just a trick we used to do. If you want to improve your pronunciation read this.
Palabras de información: Proposiciones, conjunciones, artículos, pronombres, etc. Se pronuncian con acento más débil, obscuro, corto.
Palabras de contenido: Verbos, sustantivos, adjetivos, adverbios: Se pronuncian con acento más fuerte, claro.
Ej.I love to work in the morning .
Solamente pronuncia las subrayadas, y da un pequeño golpe en la mesa al hacerlo, luego trata de decir la oración completa usando el mismo tiempo, recordando la regla anterior.
These are simple ways to improve pronunciation and fluency.

Hi David.
Thanks. It really works. If there´s anything I can help you with, just let me know.
One more thing, grammatically, you have to say "Correct me if I write something wong" Bad refers to quality.

Take care.

Hi Tony

Hi everybody:

Thanks Tony for your invitation to this debate.

Let's me comment the following.

When we use a language, we do it by developing the four skills, that is to say: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. We must try to practice the four of them to learn and to improve a foreign language. That 's the same way we learn our native language. The more we practice the more we learn.

You're doing a great effort to help others to improve.

Hugs

Juan
