Hi to you all!

I'm a Spanish student who is learning English at the Spanish Language School. It's a brilliant idea to put our knowledge into practice on this thread -no matter how good or bad we are so don't feel embarrassed to show yourself off. The only way of improving your skills apart from speaking, writing, reading or listening is by being aware of your own mistakes and if you all allow me I will be incredibly happy to do so. Of course, whoever they like can do the same thing with my posts here. This should be a everybody's task.

For example, the sentece Ana Roslyin wrote wasn't right enough. Let me give you other alternatives so that other people can take note and learn. Let's analyse it:

"I am very happy for Spain is mundial of footbal champion. But my problem is another, I want learnt english".

The right one would be: I am so glad (that) Spain won the world champion cup . Here we need two sentences which can be alternatively linked with a relative pronoun. 'That' isn't necessary and we can leave it out (leave out = omitir) because it doesn't function as an object or a subject. This sentence can be translated as " ¡Qué bien que España haya ganado el mundial! " or "Estoy muy contenta de que españa haya ganado el mundial".

Now, let me point out some useful vocabulary which has been used here:

Suggest = Proponer (better than 'propose')
Topics = Temas (better than 'theme' in that context)
Aim / Goal = Objetivo (never say 'objetives' because it has a different meaning)
Thread = Hilo de discusión (better than 'debate')
A good way of = Una buena forma de (a preposition is always followed by gerund -ING-)
Make a mistake = Cometer un error
To be corrected = Que te corrijan

Hope all this was helpful. If you like, I can give you some little lessons to revise the elementary English common usage.

Hi,

The hardest part about learning is not to think in the native language when writing English.

Happy learning!

Hi Yomomma,

I did not understand quite what you meant. You referred to the idea of not translating literally into English what quickly comes to your mind in Spanish, did you? I totally agree with you in that case. This is one of the things I've realised since I started learning English. ;)

Hi friend,

I am afraid I have a different prospective about what you've said, although I am not going into detail now, because you look like you know what you are talking about and that is good enough for me.

Happy learning!
